PROFESSIONALISM IS INTERNATIONAL DESIRE
Kunming, China, November 7, 2006 Alan Hummel, SRA, Chief Appraiser of Forsythe Appraisals,
recently returned from Kunming China where he represented The Appraisal Foundation at the 2006
International Valuation Forum. Hosted by the China Appraisal Society and the International
Valuation Standards Committee, the four-day event attracted more than 300 participants from
13 countries across the globe.
The conference titled, “Assets, Valuations, and the Development of Market Economies,” focused on
identifying needs of both emerging economies, as well as established mortgage and financial systems.
A significant emphasis was also placed on the need for strong standards and ethics necessary
to ensure that the quality of service provided protects the public good.
Mr. Hummel’s presentation of his white paper, “The Property Valuation Professional: Providing Local
Expertise, Allowing for Credible Global Financial Decisions” was well-received by the diverse
group of valuation professionals. The 45 minute presentation included comprehensive documentation
and analysis of the advantages of a country’s strong legislation supporting high levels of education,
ethics, and standards-- all of which support the ability to withstand and recover from the vagaries
of economic cycles.
“It was a relatively easy paper for me to present, given the strong emphasis Forsythe Appraisals puts
on these same principles,” Hummel said. “The tremendous effort the Appraisal Foundation has put into
development and advancement of standards defining professionalism in the United States is the benchmark
of many countries.”
