John Forsythe, SRA – President & CEO

John joined Forsythe Appraisals as an appraiser in 1985. After gaining success as an independent insurance agent, his entrepreneurial spirit served him well in his new profession. By 1987, John had earned his SRA designation from the Appraisal Institute, and in 1993, was named Vice President of Forsythe Appraisals. John embraced all aspects of appraising, becoming the company’s expert on relocation appraisals, heading that division. John earned his ASA designation as a machinery and equipment appraiser. He established the company’s reputation in litigation, complex and unique properties, upper bracket, and special-use appraisals. John also developed a rigorous training program for new appraisers, which is still used today. He was named President of Forsythe Appraisals in 1997 and added CEO to his title and duties as President in 2011.

Today, John is actively involved in every aspect of the company, including working with clients, overseeing daily operations, and leading Forsythe Appraisals' overall growth strategy.

John’s family keeps him balanced. His wife, Carlene, and his son and daughter enjoy a very active lifestyle. Their children’s school activities and sporting events take top priority. Travel, time at the lake, skiing, and golf are enjoyed as a family.

Tim Forsythe – Senior Director Of Customer Development

After earning a degree from the University of Minnesota, in 1979, Tim joined his father, Jerry, in continuing Forsythe’s legacy in the real estate and appraisal industry. Within the next two decades, Tim had earned his SRA and SRPA designations and purchased Forsythe Appraisals, becoming its CEO in 1993.

As CEO, Tim set up the framework for aggressive expansion and guided the company’s growth with branch offices ultimately serving 40 metropolitan areas throughout the continental United States, making Forsythe Appraisals the largest independent residential appraisal firm in the country. In October 2011 Tim stepped down as CEO, turning the reigns over to his brother and company President John Forsythe, and taking on his current role as Senior Director of Customer Development. In this position he focuses all of his efforts on strengthening relationships with new and existing customers of Forsythe Appraisals.

A participant in numerous annual conferences and events, including ERC, Mortgage Bankers Association, NAMB and TAVMA, Tim has served on the Advisory Board for Lender’s Service, Inc., and on the Board of Directors for MAPA (Minnesota Association of Professional Appraisers), Minnesota Union Builders, and The Retreat.

Alan Hummel, SRA – Senior Vice President, Chief Appraiser

Like the Forsythe brothers, Alan is the product of a successful family-owned appraisal business. Here are some of the highlights of our chief appraiser’s unparalleled career:

For 23 years as President and CEO of Iowa Residential Appraisal Company, Alan provided his clients—from Des Moines to the Twin Cities—solutions to an equally broad variety of real estate issues. During this time, Alan served as the National President of the Appraisal Institute and as a member of their executive committee and board of directors. He has testified before the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives on mortgage fraud and appraisal issues.

As Forsythe’s chief appraiser, Alan is integral to Forsythe’s continued growth—as a company and an industry leader. At any given moment, you’ll find him busy spearheading quality control or mentoring the next generation of Forsythe appraisal experts. And he continues to be invited to speak nationwide on these and other topics, from predatory lending and technology-related issues to banking associations and numerous real estate industry groups.

Alan attended Iowa State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He and his wife, Karen, reside in St. Paul, Minnesota, with their four children.

Richard Shackelford – VP, Business Development

Rich joined Forsythe Appraisals in 2014 as VP of Business Development.  He is responsible for the successful growth of local and national client opportunities and brand recognition.  Specifically he is responsible for business opportunities related to residential valuations, collateral litigation and appraisal consulting support, retrospective property evaluations and collateral desk and field reviews. 

Rich has an extensive appraisal and mortgage industry background, having held leadership positions in loan origination, loan operations management, sales, and territory management.  Prior to joining Forsythe Appraisals, Rich led the national sales team and managed overall client growth at IRR-Residential.  

He brings a wealth of experience in B2B relationship management, appraisal management and mortgage lending and brings a unique perspective to the appraisal business due to his strong understanding of the issues facing today’s mortgage industry and national lending professionals across the country. Rich graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.

Grant Robinson for Web

Grant Robinson – VP, Research and Analytics

Grant joined the company in October 2014 and in this role focuses on the analysis and implementation of technology solutions to drive greater client, appraiser and operational efficiency and satisfaction.  

His key focus is on improving reporting processes to provide relevant, timely, and actionable information to all levels and constituencies both inside and outside the organization. Grant also leverages his finance and accounting background to support Forsythe Appraisals’ senior management and accounting team. He has worked with the company for the past several years in his previous position as an associate at Hillcrest Capital Partners, Forsythe Appraisals’ investment partner.  

While at Hillcrest, Grant was responsible for evaluating new investment opportunities, performing due diligence, assisting in obtaining financing for acquisitions, maintaining lender relationships and working closely with the management teams of Hillcrest’s portfolio companies. Grant is a certified public accountant and holds a Master of Accountancy and a B.S. with majors in accounting, finance and international business from the University of Minnesota.

Rick Hansen – Director Of Operations

Rick has been with the company since 2008 and spent the first several years supporting Forsythe Appraisals’ branch managers in opening new sales channels and creating enhanced avenues for lead generation and appraiser recruiting. In 2011 he was named the company’s new Director of Business Development, and then in 2012 he was appointed to his current position as Director of Operations.

In this role, Rick is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of existing and new branches, with a focus on developing and implementing action plans to ensure that branch productivity and efficiency are aligned to achieve the company’s established short and long range strategic goals.

Rick has more than two decades of industry experience, including 20 years growing and managing 35 branches at First American Title, one of the nation’s largest title insurance and settlement service providers. Following First American, Rick was General Manager at RHR Information Services, a Minneapolis-based background screening firm with nationwide clients.

Rick holds a Bachelors of Science degree in business, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Jackie Chaves – IT Manager

Jackie has been with the company for 9 years. Among her many duties, she manages the relationships of Third Party IT partners, software support for the company’s employees, network infrastructure, telecommunications and Information Security.  

Prior to being named IT Manager, Jackie worked in a management position overseeing parts of the company’s operations department under General Manager Patti Pray. In her career with the company she has also supported the executive management team, managed customer relationships, and functioned as Executive Assistant to president and CEO, John Forsythe.

Patti Pray – General Manager, Central Quality Control & Centralized Operations

Patti is a trained appraiser who has been with the company since 2002. She spent the first 8 years involved in appraiser relations and quality assurance, prior to being appointed manager of the company-wide quality assurance department in 2010.

In her role as General Manager of Centralized Operations, Patti supervises a staff of more than 40 individuals responsible for all of the day-to-day operations, including order entry, scheduling, shipping, and customer relations, while also maintaining her management role in Central Quality Control.

Patti attended the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. When not working, Patti enjoys biking, and spending time with her family and friends at the lake.
